THE PROCESS: MINIMAL CONTACT GUIDELINES
For health and safety reasons, this year's assistance process will utilize minimal contact. What's that mean? Here's the process:
Visit the Reference Department to schedule your appointment and receive your tax prep materials.
Fill out the materials at home. Sign the consent form, fill out the intake form, and gather all supporting materials including photocopies of your ID and place them in the envelope.
Arrive on time for your appointment with this envelope (be EXTRA sure it contains all the appropriate tax documentation and supporting SIGNED materials and photocopies. Also, be EXTRA sure to bring your photo ID with you to this appointment.
You must leave the appointment area after dropping off your packet. The tax preparer agent will work on your return and contact you by phone with questions. You MUST be reachable by phone from the start of your appointment until you are called to pick up your return. NOTE: This can take up to an hour, and you may wait in the library but all calls must be taken outside.
NOTE: Unfortunately due to the nature of this service, if you do not have a cell phone or close by landline, you will be unable to participate in the program this year.
You will be called to pick up your return when it is finished. Arrive at the area you dropped it off and pick up your return. You must pick up your return within 60 minutes of this call.
PLEASE be considerate of the tax prep agents' time. They are volunteers with their own lives and schedules, and do not operate solely on the library's schedule. They cannot hold completed returns for you. If documents are left with them for extended time periods, they will be shredded.
